~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once Upon a Time, there was a beautiful Princess named Molly. She was just as beautiful as she was kind and compassionate. She treated all her subjects with honor and respect, no matter their status. However her father the king, did not. While he respected his advisors, military members, and personal servants; he looked down upon the cooks and cleaners whom also served him. One day, the king berated a cleaning servant. But the Servant turned out to be a powerful magic user. To get revenge on the King, the servant cursed the Princess! The Princess fell into a deep sleep, only to be awoken by a kiss from noble soul. The King brought in Royals and Nobles from far and wide, but not one has been able to wake the Princess. Hundreds of years have passed, and some say the Princess still sleeps in the old castle. Waiting to be awoken by a noble soul.
_____________
Tenya Iida admittedly liked the legend of the sleeping princess. His brother Tensei would tell it to him before bed. He himself was a knight, and little Tenya would often ask if he had ever seen the princess on his adventures. Tensei would just laugh and shake his head before turning out the light. Tenya obviously grew up, and that ‘the sleeping princess’ was simply a story. But it always held wonderful memories of his older brother and childhood innocence.
Tenya Iida had grown up to become an adventuring knight, just like his brother. He rode his glorious white horse throughout the lands, fighting monsters and saving those in danger. Everyone said he had more than earned his honor, and had no need to keep adventuring as such lengths. But Tenya Iida didn’t stop or lessen. He felt like he was missing something. There was a task he needed to complete, he just didn’t know what it was. So Tenya Iida rode his horse all over the world, on an unknown quest he didn’t know how to complete.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tenya Iida had found himself in a small village, on the verge of ruin. The houses were huts, one breeze short of collapsing. Plants grew over everything, some vines covering entire buildings. And yet, they had successful enough farms and enough people to be considered a village still. He was curious as to why these people stayed here, when there was a perfectly well running kingdom just a few miles away. Tenya rode his horse through the town.
The people gasped at the sight of the knight, and stared after him. They looked shocked to see a warrior there, and some even followed his horse down the street! Surely they couldn’t be so shocked to see someone like him? There were plenty of people in this village, a stranger shouldn’t be so easy to spot? And yet, they followed him, a few even cheering for him? Saying things like ‘he’s come!’ And ‘he must be the one!’
Tenya and his steed were soon blocked by an old man. He wore dusty robes, and a circlet that signified him a leader. Tenya came to a stop and allowed the man to address him.
“You sir, who are you?” The leader asked.
“I am Sir Tenya Iida, Knight of the Kingdom Ingenia.” Tenya Iida bowed his head. “And you?”
“I am Grand Torino.” The old man bowed his head back. “The Grand Leader of this kingdom.”
“Kingdom?” Tenya dismounted his horse. “Surely you must be mistaken. This is just barley a village, with no name or mark on a map.”
“You watch your tounge young man!” Grand Torino. “We were once a prosperous kingdom, ruled by a beautiful young princess!”
“Then where is said princess?”
“When the curse was cast, few have strayed through the decades. Those of us left stay devoted and loyal to her, awaiting one to awaken her.”
“This sounds more like a religion or god, than a princess.”
“She is no goddess, for if she were she would have awoken long ago.”
“But now you are here!” The citizens cheered.
“What do you mean?” Tenya Iida looked around, confused.
“Follow me, Knight.” Grand Torino began to shuffle into the woods of the village.

Grand Torino brought Tenya Iida to an old castle ruin. It was covered in plants, however a single entrance and hallway were cleared of them. The Leader led Tenya through said hall, into a bedroom. The long said ‘decades’ seemed to have had no affect on this room. Shiny objects upon perfectly preserved furniture, and drapes and blankets had no dust. In fact, there was a seemingly forever young princess sleeping in the bed.
“Surely you have heard of the sleeping princess legend?” Grand Torino said.
Tenya nodded.
“Well its no legend. The Princess who’s name has been lost to the ages, has slept here for hundreds of years.”
Tenya Iida approached the Sleeping Princess. She was just as beautiful as the legends say: Beautiful fiery hairy, which had faded over time. Plump body and soft clear skin, and rosy lips awaiting a kiss. Tenya wasn’t sure what he was feeling, but it was a sense of relief? He finally felt like he had figured out hius mysterious a quest. Was this it? Was he to wake the princess?
“Only noble soul can awaken the Princess.” Grand Torino said. “A noble, royal, or knight…it has been years since one entered these lands. Perhaps you are the one to awaken her.”
“Me?” Tenya asked.
“Go on, kiss her young man.”
Tenya Iida took a deep breath. He knelt down to the Princess’s bedside, and gave her a kiss. She remained still and asleep. Tenya bowed his head, and Grand Torino fell into a chair. Grand Torino seemed quite upset.
“Young man, this kingdom is doomed.” He said. “The women of this kingdom are infertile, and the few fertile daughters have no one to court. The rest of us are old, and must leave the kingdom to see any of our loved ones. No one expect myself was willing to stay to look after her majesty. I am the leader, and must sacrifice my hope to see my son for my duty.”
Tenya Iida sat down next to him. “Thats why you were all excited when arrived. I was your last chance to save your kingdom before you were all forced to leave.”
Grand Torino nodded.
Tenya Iida stood up. “Grand Torino sir, all my life I have felt a connection to the ‘Sleeping Princess’ story. As well I have always felt there was a quest I must complete, unaware of what it is. But I believe this is it. My mission is to gaurd the princess, look after her until she is awakened.”
“This is not an easy job young man. It is lonely, and isolating. Unless anyone comes to the kingdom or castle, you cannot simply look for anyone to awaken her. You could spend the rest of your life doing this unless someone else comes along to free you of your burden.”
“I can’t explain it, but I must do this.”
Grand Torino nodded. “Very Well. You will now guard the Princess. Make sure this room and hall stay pristine, and the princess stays safe from possible harm.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tenya Iida sent his family and loved ones a letter, saying goodbye. That he had found his life long mission, and that he most definitely would not see them again. He watched as Grand Torino and the rest of the kingdom left in a large crowd, for a new life. Tenya Iida stayed in a small hut outside the castle now.
Everyday, Tenya Iida would wake up and train with his sword. He’d feed his horse, and then enter the castle. He’d stand attention by the Princess’s door for hours. After that, he would enter the room and tidy up any dust that had been gathered. He had also begun to speak to the sleeping princess. Keep her company, you could say. He worked to restore the castle, and began to farm food for himself. Tenya Iida, did this for many years.
Tenya Iida was now 19, and he had never once considered leaving his princess. He had grown devoted to her. He spoke with her every day, and even entertained her with stories. Sometimes, bandits would break into the ruins, searching for any ancient valuables. Tenya Iida would fight them off.
While the Princess never awoke, she did begin ti make noise. The first time it happened, Tenya practically jumped out of his skin. She was very deep in sleep, but would sometimes make sounds of distress. Tenya would do what he could to fix them, and she’d make a sound of calm and relaxation.
_______________
“Good morning your majesty,” Tenya Iida bowed to the sleeping princess.
The sleeping Princess did not awaken.
“There were bandits last night,” he reported.
The princess moaned in distress, as if she could hear him.
“I fought them off. Nothing was stolen or damaged.”
The princess visibly relaxed.
“I have been cleaning and repairing the castle for years now. I think it is finally restored to its former glory.”
The Princess didn’t move.
“I wish you could see it. I’m sure you miss seeing your home.”
The Princess did not move.
“I must go retrieve the morning fruit from the gardens.” Tenya Iida said.
The Princess sounded upset.
“I will return.”
She still sounded upset, for than ever before. She began to…move! Her head was tossing and turning, as if she was having a bad dream.
Tenya rushed to her side. He begged his princess to calm down, but she would not. Tenya lifted her limp hands into his own and held them tightly. He tried to reassure her in her sleep, but nothing was working. She looked so scarred.
“Your majesty, its ok.” He said. He gave her knuckles a soft peck. “its ok—“
There was a loud gasp for air, and the Princess’s eyes shot open. She sat upright in bed, still holding Tenya’s hands. Finally she calmed down, and looked up at Tenya.
“Is…is it you?” The princess gasped.
“Y-Your majesty!” Tenya gasped, and dropped to his knees bowing. “I am sorry for daring to touch your hands—“
“Is it you?” The Princess asked again, trying to move closer to Tenya. But she almost fell off the bed. Tenya caught her though.
“Are you the one who has been with me these last years?” The Princess asked.
“Are you aware how long you have been asleep?” Tenya asked.
“I…I don’t know…” the princess looked down. “It was black…It was black and silent for so long! But a few years ago, I could hear again! I could hear you. You’d come in every day, talk to me and tell me stories! I wanted to tell you how much it meant to me, and how much I loved you. But I couldn’t move, talk or see anything! It was scary, being like that for years.”
“Your majesty, I have been guarding your for the last 3 years. However you have been asleep for over one hundred.”
Her eyes widened. “The curse…I was cursed…and you! You’ve awoken me! Right?”
“I suppose I have. However I’m not sure how.”
“A noble soul had to kiss me.”
“Yes. However was told to do so when I first saw you years ago. However nothing happened. Why did it happen now?”
“I suppose you had to prove you were noble of soul, not just status. And you did!”
Tenya noticed the Princess had grabbed his hands. He felt flustered. He was just a knight, this was a princess! Surely she could not—
“Kiss me again, Sir Tenya Iida.”
“How do you know my name?” Tenya gasped, before even considering the request.
“I could hear you writing your letters to your family, she. You told them good bye. You signed each one ‘Tenya Iida’, saying it allowed along with the rest of the letters. You’ve given up..everything for me. How could I forget the name of someone like that?”
Tenya Iida blushed, but boldly asked. “What is your name, your majesty?”
“My name is Molly. Princess Molly.” She smiled.
“And if your would please, Sir Tenya.” Molly looked up at the Knight. “Please kiss me again.”
Tenya blushed. “A-As you wish, your majesty.”
THE END
