AU where Lance was raised by the Galran Empire and Alurra is the Blue Paladin.
Sorry its been so long since Part 1, but here we are I'm finally getting around to it!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It had been around two weeks since Keith had been rescued from the Galra Empire. Everyone had been so worried for him, and were so happy that he was safe. In fact, he seemed totally fine? He jumped right back into training and joined almost any missions Alurra and Shiro planned. Shiro kept trying to tell Keith that he could talk to them if anything was wrong, and that he didn't need to use training and missions to distract from whatever he may be feeling. But Keith would wave him off, claiming he was fine.
But Keith was not fine. Keith may be back in the castle, but he felt as if he was still in that cell. He would never be rescued until Lance was here and safe with him. Keith through himself into training so he would be ready when he rescued Lance. He joined any and all missions Shiro and Alurra planned, for just a chance to find Sharpshooter. He even managed to steal borrow one of Pidge's radios in an attempt to listen for Lance, which resulted in a kick to the shin when Pidge found out about the theft. He was trying anything and everything, just to find the blue-eyed beauty that stole his heart.
Quiznack, why didn't Lance just come with him?! No matter what Lance said about the Galra Empire, Keith knew Lance wanted to leave with him. The way his eyes shined when Keith explained the littlest things about Earth. Keith didn't even miss Earth until he started telling Lance about it. Now, he would give anything to show Lance the beautiful blue skies and the crazy desert plants of Arizona. And Lance kissed him. Quiznacking gave him a smooch! And Keith didn't even get to say anything before Lance pushed him away.
...
All these thoughts tumbled through Keith's mind as he washed the dishes alone--it was his turn afterall--scrubbing the soap a bit too harshly.
"The nerve of that guy," Keith mumbled to himself under his breath. "Kissing me before saying goodbye. When I find him--"
"Find who?"
Keith looked up to find Hunk trolling into the kitchen. He was the most concerned for Keith out of everyone, even Shiro. And he clearly heard Keith's mumbles.
"Nothing." Keith said, looking back down at the dishes.
"Keith, I know I've said it before but I'm worried about you." Hunk sighed. "From the minute you fell from the healing pod, you jumped straight into all this paladin work. You didn't take any time to process your capture! And at first I thought you were just avoiding it, distracting yourself with everything. But after what you just said...that's not it, is it?"
Keith didn't say anything. He just kept his eyes on the dishes.
"Keith," Hunk reached over and turned off the sink, forcing Keith to acknowledge him. "I care about you, we all do! So tell me what you're doing, please."
Keith sighed and set down the dishes. What was he supposed to say? Oh yeah, I fell in love with my captor! I'm trying to find him because he kissed me before you all rescued me! And don't worry, he's an Earthling so its totally not Stalkholme Syndrome! He'd sound brainwashed or just downright crazy. But Hunk was his teammate, his friend. And no one was going to leave him alone until he said something.
"Uhm, when I was in the cells..I made a...friend. And when you rescued me I had to leave him behind." Keith said.
"Oh Keith!" Hunk gasped. "Oh god I'm so sorry--"
"I have to find him. Until I do...it feels like I wasn't rescued at all."
Hunk nodded sadly. "I think I understand. But we can help you!"
"No," Keith insisted. "I have to do this on my own."
Hunk wrapped Keith in a hug. "Thank you for telling me. I promise that we'll save your friend. And I'll be here for you until then and after."
Keith reluctantly hugged back.
The entire team was on a mission. There was a galra base on this barren planet. It was surrounded by a rocky canyon with lots of hiding spots. For them and the Galra. Itv was like deadly Hide and Seek.
"Be careful everyone," Pidge said through the coms. "I've been listening in on the Galra radios and coms. I think there's a sniper somewhere out there."
"A sniper?" Shiro asked.
"Yeah, they're using codenames but I don't know what else SharpShooter could mean."
"Wait, did you say Sharpshooter?!" Keith excalined.
"Uh, yeah? Why?"
Keith took off running, leaving his team behind crying out for him to come back.
_____________
He's here, Keith's heart was pounding his his chest as he ran through the canyon. Lance is here, I have to find him!
The Canyon was indeed full of hiding Galra, which would jump out from behind rocks and attack. Keith used his bayard to fight them off one-by-one. He kept calling out Lance's name, ignoring the confused chatter of his own coms.
A laser shot just inches from his toes, and Keith came to a halt. He looked up from where he stood at a cluster of boulders on a cliff of the canyon. A galra solider with a long and powerful sniper-riffle looked down on him, before standing up in shock.
"Keith!" Lance shouted out.
"Lance!" Keith shouted back.
Lance put away his gun and rushed down the canyon to Keith.
Lance swept Keith into his arms and spun him around, and Keith held on tightly never wanting to let go.
"Oh I'm so happy to see you!" Lance cheered. "Thank Zarkon you made it out!"
"I've been searching for you since I got back to my team," Keith said.
Lance's eyes softened, and he leaned in for a kiss. "Aw Keith..."
"YOU IDIOT!" Keith shouted as he gave Lance a hard punch to the arm. "You kiss me and then make me leave you behind! You asshole!"
"I'm sorry!" Lance whined.
"I hate you!" Keith shouted as he kissed Lance.
A real kiss this time, not a stupid peck. Lance's lips were soft, and he tasted like the special flavored food goo Corran brought out only for special occasion. Sweet and juicy, Keith never wanted to let go. But of course he had to breathe, but he was tempted to suffocate then and there just to keep Lance's lips on his.
"Heh, I love you too mullet." Lance chuckled, letting go.
"C'mon," Keith said.
"What?"
"We're leaving,"
"Keith, I already told you." Lance sighed.
"The Empire is my home." Lance claimed.
"No its not!" Keith shouted. "Earth is your home! And I know you know it!"
"Keith, I can't leave. The Empire is all I've ever known."
"Lance, I won't leave you behind again!"
"Besides, what would your team think? I know they've been going crazy over your coms."
"I don't care! They'll understand, we just have to explain--"
"What? That a loyal member of the Galra Empire is joining Voltron just because he wants some Earth lessons!?"
Keith looked down.
"I may not agree with Zarkon's ways and follow Lotor more, but I am loyal to the Galra empire--"
"I didn't have a home on Earth." Keith confessed.
"...What?" Lance asked. "B-But you told me about the shack you--"
"Thats where I lived, but it wasn't a home." Keith explained. "And when I came to space, met team Voltron, it felt different. The paladins, they became my family. They became my home. You became my home too Lance." Keith looked up into Lance's eyes. "Is the Galra Empire your home, or just where you live?"
"No," Lance said instantly. "No, my home is you."
"Then come home Lance."
"What's happening?!" Shiro shouted.
"He turned off his coms, I can't hear or see anything!" Pidge said.
"Can you get a visual?" Alurra asked.
"No, he's too far away from the galra base. There aren't any Cameras."
"Do you at least have his Location?" Hunk asked.
"Yes, he's right here by this cliff." Pidge pointed to her GPS. "But he's just standing there!"
"Wait, then who's that?" Shiro pointed to another heat signature.
"I don't know."
"OH!" Hunk gasped. "That must be the firend!"
"What are you talking about?" Alurra asked.
"Uhm, well..." Hunk flushed. "I wasn't supposed to say that."
"Hunk." Shiro looked Hunk dead in the eyes. "Who. Is. That."
"I got Keith to open up to me a while back. He said that he met a friend in the Galra cells, but had to leave him behind when we rescued him. And he's been searching for him endlessly since we got back."
"Oh my gosh," Pidge said. "I feel horrible about kicking him in the shin for sealing my tech, now that I know why he did it."
"Why didn't he ask for out help?" Alurra asked.
"He said it was something he had to do on his own." Hunk said.
"Look! Look!" Pidge pointed to the GPS. "he's coming back with the friend!"
Keith returned to the team, holding a Galra Soilder's hand.
"KEITH!" Shiro shouted. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!"
"Shiro, lemme explain," Keith said.
"KEITH, THAT IS A GALRAN!" Alurra cried out.
"No he's not!" Keith shouted. "He's an Earthling!"
"WHAT?!" Hunk and Pidge screamed.
"I promise I'll explain everything, but we need to get back to the castle. NOW!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lance felt rather awkward, sitting in the Castle of Lions, surrounded by the Paladins of Voltron(Well, 3/5 of them. The Blue and Black Paladins where still changing clothes), in Galran Empire Uniform. But its not like he owned anything else! He did notice the other Palaidn's clothing though.
"This is what people wear on Earth, huh?" Lance couldn't help but ask.
The Green Paladin, Pidge, tried to hide a laugh into their hand.
"Really?" The Black Paladin walked into the room, raising an eyebrow. "Thats the first question you have?"
Lance's jaw dropped.
"Oh my gosh, you're the Champion!" Lance shouted out with a grin. "I'm a huge fan! I used to watch your fights all the time, you were amazing!"
"Uhh..." The Champion looked flustered.
"Can I have your autograph?! Wait I don't have a pen. Crap I don't have anything for you to sign-!"
"You can call me Shiro." The Champion said. "And I am not fond if being called the Champion. Its time of my life I'm not proud of."
Lance wanted to object, defend Shiro's absolute amazingness. But Keith had mentioned that it might take him a while to realize that the Galra Empire had done some pretty bad things and that their cultures were very different. So he didn't push it, and simply nodded.
"Hunk explained to us the basic story that Keith told him," The Blue Paladin, Princess Alurra, entered the room. "That you and Keith bonded in the Galra Prison and that he was forced to leave you behind when we saved him. And that since then he has been searching for you."
"But other than that, you're a total mystery to us." Pidge said. "So go on, spill your backstory!"
"Pidge!" Keith scolded.
However Lance complied, and told the other paladins everything he had told Keith. He mentioned Prince Lotor of course, which took them on a brief detour of the conversation. But when all was said and done, the team was warry but open to learning to trust Lance.
And so Lance was accepted onto the Castle of Lions. His duties consisted of helping Corran clean and repair the castle. He spent his time learning about Earth from Pidge and Hunk, and trained with Keith among other things. The castle was a great place to live, but...
Keith and Lance had found a home in each other.
