Hey hi WOW its been a while! I had a cool idea and had to act on it a little bit lol.
Heres the idea(but spoilers if u wanna be surpirsed):
Anyway LETS GOOOO!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He would never admit it, but Keith missed Voltron. He missed what he learned to consider his family. Again, he would never admit it though. He had been on a long mission, and was unable to contact Voltron let alone for them to contact him. The minute he was dismissed after the mission was over, he rushed to the castle.
Keith’s BOM pod landed in the Caslte of Lion’s hanger. The whole team was there to greet him, and he felt warm in his heart. They all rushed up and embraced him. He hugged them back, despite his pride. They all asked so many questions, about where he was and how his mission went. How much they missed him and needed to call him. He was happy to hear everyone’s voices— wait, where was Lance?
Lance’s voice was missing, he was missing. Where was he? He had actually missed Lance quite a bit(AGAIN HE’D NEVER CONFESS TO THAT!), and was looking forward to seeing him. Were they still Rivals despite their multiple bonding moments before he left? He hoped thats not what Lance thought.
“Where’s Lance?” Keith asked.
The team went tense, but didn’t frown or anything. What was going on?
“He’s uhm, He’s in the training room.” Shiro said as casually as possible.
“Ha, thats new!” Keith chuckled. “Since when does he train?”
“About that—“
“I’ll ask him about it I guess.” Keith shrugged, and began to make his way to the training room.
He never heard the team’s protests or warnings.
Keith walked in on Lance training. It was an odd sight. He was using a blaster/gun, but it was not his bayard. Not the blue NOR the red one. He was using an Old Altean weapon. He watched as Lance hit five targets, but missed all the others. He cheered, as if that was an accomplishment. But Lance was their SharpShooter, he never missed a shot! He had innocent eyes, without their spark of mischief.
“Lance?” He called out.
Lance turned to him, and set down the blaster right away. He slowly walked up to Keith silently, not saying a word yet. He smiled softly, it was odd.
“Hi! You must be Keith, right?” Lance asked, reaching out his hand for Keith to shake.
“…What?” Keith raised his eyebrow.
“You known, the others told me I used to make fun of your so called mullet!” Lance laughed a bit. “Hm…I don’t know why, it looks fine to me!” Lance shrugged.
“Your acting really weird Lance, is this some sort of joke?” Keith crossed his arms.
“Oh! The jokes!” Lance’s eyes widened. “Hold on I prepared one just for when I got to meet you!”
“Wh-What?”
Lance cleared his throat. “Ok Ok: Hunk told me that I used to barge in on you a lot. I don’t know why, I guess I haven’t ever heard of Closing the God Damn Door!” He said that last bit in the tune of “I write Sins Not Tragedies” by Panic!At the Disco. Lance laughed at his own joke(at least that hand;t changed).
Keith just stood there in shock and confusion.
“Aw did you not like it?” Lance frowned. “Darn, the others said you’d love that one! But its ok, I don’t really get it either. Panic!At the Disco? I’ve never heard of it….”
“L-Lance…what are you talking about?”
“Hm?”
“Y-You keep saying things like…like you don’t know who I am—“
Suddenly the rest of the Team rushed into the training room. They started to crowd around Keith while Alurra spoke to Lance.
“Wait, whats going on?” Keith asked. “What’s wrong with him?!”
“We’ll explain Keith,” Pidge said.
“Just stay calm.” Shiro said.
“Stay Calm?! Why is Lance—“
“Shh,” Hunk said. “Don’t overwhelm him.”
___________________________
“What the hell is going on?!” Keith shouted. “Why is he acting like…like THAT?!”
“Keith, calm down.” Shiro said softly.
“And sit down.” Pidge said.
Keith huffed and sat down on the couch.
Hunk began to leaver the room, but Keith called out to him.
“Where are you going?!” he yelled. “Lance is your best friend! Explain whats going on with him!”
“I-I…I cant..!” Hunk teared up and rushed away.
“Keith this has been very hard on him.” Shiro said.
“What’s been hard on him?!” Keith yelled.
“Lance has Amnesia Keith.” Pidge blurted out.
“……what?” Keith asked, almost whispering.
Lance had Amneisa? What had happened? What did he remember? What did he forget? Did he remember discovering Voltron? His Family in Cuba? Is name? Did he forget all the planets they’d been to? All the bonding moments he and the rest of them all experienced? Did he even remember any of them? What had happened? Was Lance still Lance? Or was he someone completely different? Was he simply a stranger pretending to be Lance?
“What…What happened?” Keith finally spoke again. “How did it…How did he..?”
“It happened on a mission.” Shiro said. “The Battle was very fast and intense. There were so many galra ships. Motherships, fighter jets, ion cannons! It was one of our most intense battles yet.”
“We were split up, and no matter how close we got we kept getting separated again.” Pidge spoke up. “So we weren’t able to form Voltron.”
“So what happened? We’ve been in situations like that before!” Keith said.
“Not like this.” Shiro sighed. “We were dodging fighter jets left and right, along with five different ion cannons. All while also trying to get a few hits in.”
“We should have retreated.” Pidge said. “It was a battle we couldn’t win. But without Alurra in the Castle, we couldn’t form a wormhole and flee.”
“We sent Alurra back to the castle ship. Lance in Red was covering Blue so Alurra could make it. But in that moment, the ion cannons…they..” Shiro sighed, trying to compose himself.
“Three of them hit Lance. All at once.”
“Oh my god…”
“He should have died.” Shiro said. “Sometimes I think we should have left him rest in peice.”
“How could you say that?!”
“Because,” Pidge sniffled. “Because what happened next, what we’ve been left with? He wouldn’t have wanted this.”
“But how did he get Amnesia? How did he survive?!” Keith demanded to know.
“When we all got back, Alurra was able to use Altean Quintecense to revive Lance.”
Shiro finally joined back in, more composed. “But he fell into a deep coma. He was out for an entire week. During that week we tried to contact you. Let you know what happened. But we couldn’t reach you.”
“When Lance finally woke up, he…he wasn’t himself.” Pidge put her head in her hands. “He lost everything Keith. He didn’t remember Voltron, Us, Earth, or even his own name.”
“Oh my god…”
“We kept trying to contact you after that, trying everything.” Shiro said. “But we couldn’t.”
“Ever since then, we’ve been trying to cope.” Shiro continued. “We tried, but his memories are gone. There’s no way to get them back.”
“So instead we at least wanted to try and befriend this Lance.” Pidge said. “We would tell him stories of himself, but he would just laugh as if it wasn’t him. As if it was someone else named Lance.”
Keith was beginning to cry, no matter how hard he held back the tears.
Corran walked in. “Sorry, I was easdropping.” Corran confessed. He joined them and sat down. “Everything they’ve said is true. And of course Lance is different. But he’s still so carefree and kind. Deep down he is the same boy we know and love! Even if he’s forgotten how to joke or fly.”
“He doesn’t even know how to fly?” Keith’s eyes widened. “How are you guys gonna form Voltron?! W-Wait, I can teach him! Yeah I used to be ‘the best at the Garrison’! I-I can train him—“
“Keith you can’t.” Shiro sighed.
“why not?”
“The Lions…they’ve rejected Lance.” Pidge said, agony in her voice.
“What?!”
“After lance awoke with permanent Amnesia, the Red Lion rejected him.” Corran said. “We tried to take him back to Blue, but there was no response. None of the Lions responded to him.”
“Wh-What are you guys gonna do then?” Keith asked, already knowing the answer.
“Keith, we need you to rejoin Voltron.” Shiro said. “We know that the Blade Of Mamora is very important to you, and we wouldn’t be…we wouldn’t be begging you to return if it wasn’t the only option.”
Keith nodded slowly.
Keith already knew he was going to say yes. The Blade was somewhere he finally felt like he was getting answers. After years of not understanding himself, he was finally starting to. But even on his way here, he missed Voltron dearly. The BOM may be his heritage, but it wasn’t his family. And his Family had needed him and he wasn’t there for them. And now Lance…wasn’t Lance anymore. He knew he was blaming himself, but its not like he couldn’t not blame himself. He wasn’t there! He wasn’t there and they needed him. Lance needed him, and he wasn’t there! And now…Now Lance isn’t there. he wasn’t going to abandon them again. He was going to be there from now on.
…
Lance looked up at Princess Alurra after the others led Keith out of the room.
“I-I’m sorry Princess…” Lance bowed his head. “I-I told him the joke but he didn’t like it. I thought he’d like it but I think I just upset him.”
“Lance it’s alright,” Alurra placed a hand on his shoulder. “He didn’t know about your memory yet.”
“Oh!” Lance gasped. “I-I probably really confused him then.”
Alurra nodded. “Its not your fault. He was in a rush to see you and we were unable to warn him ahead of time.”
Lance nodded. “Does he hate me? I mean, you guys told me we used to fight a lot. M-Maybe we weren’t getting closer like you guys thought—“
“Keith doesn’t hate you,” Alurra embraced Lance. “Remember how we were when we first realized you lost your memory?”
“You guys were really sad. Couldn’t even spend a lot of time with me individually for a while cause you’d get really upset…”
“Thats how Keith’s going to be for a while too. We’ve had time to adjust, he has not.”
Lance nodded.
Lance didn’t know much of his past life. The others were always hesitant to tell him big important things, like his family, his ‘home planet’, his past before they were where they are now. He apparently lived on Earth, with most of the other ‘Paladins’. They didn’t tell him a lot about it or his family, but they said he lived in Cuba on a beach. He apparently really liked the beach. But they’re in space right now. He knows they fight an evil empire called ‘The Galra’, in big ships that form a bigger ship called Voltron. But thats really it. They would always get so worked up whenever he asked for more details.
The others really only told Lance small details about his past life. That he would tell a lot of jokes, and sometimes flirt. He was apparently a really good shot, but when he tried he missed every target. Thats why he decided to start training again, he wanted to be good at it again! They handed him a strange object when he asked, but it didn’t do anything. After a few minutes of trying to figure it out, they sadly handed him a blaster. That one worked, yay!
Lance also learned bits and pieces about the other people.
Shiro was supposed to be someone he looked up to a lot. Lance could belive that. Shiro was a very admirable person from what he could see. Lance would sometimes sit with Corran in training room and watch the others train. Shiro was a good leader, respectfully commanding his team. He was very talented, fighting with just one hand! And when Lance would watch the others preform drills in their lions, he always had his eyes on the black one. Shiro was an amazing pilot, Lance wondered if he used to be as good.
Hunk was apparently his Best friend. Hunk was very friendly and open, it was easy to believe they used to be super close. Hunk every once in a while would bring lance with him to the kitchen, and Lance would watch him cook and bake. Lance loved the smells and the resulting tastes. Hunk would talk happily about lots of different things. Food, his tech work with Pidge, and how his trading with his lion was going. Lance would happily listen, and every once in a while try to talk too! But with no memories, his speeches ended pretty quickly.
There was Pidge, who’s real name was Katie. Lance thought it was an odd nickname, but eventually managed to refer to her as Pidge on the regular. She was very smart, and Lance would quietly sit with her as she worked on different gadgets. One time she groaned and told Lance to ‘Hush!’. When Lance stated he hadn’t actually spoken, she blushed and apologized. Told him it was a habit.
Princess Alurra was quite the character. The Old Lance apparently had a crush on her, but he really saw her as more a sister now. She was the most patient with him out of all of them. She would allow Lance to help her work, letting him organize papers or files on the computers. She was whom Lance was closest with, because she was helping him develop himself. She was one of the only people who had fully accepted that this Lance was not the old one. The only others being Pidge and Corran.
And Corran! Lance was a bit shyer than he used to be, but Corran had a large part in getting him more comfortable with everyone. He showed Lance a game called ‘Monsters&Mana’. The two would get together and play 2 player versions together often.
And then there was Keith. Oddly enough, Lance knew more about his and Keith’s past than anyone else. The others told him stories about how he would tease and playfully argue with Keith. Apparently they were ‘rival’s because Lance wanted to be better than him. Keith was ‘emo’ back on Earth, and liked punk bands and mothman. Lance didn’t know what that was at all, but simply nodded his head. Pidge would say that he and Keith were crushing on eachother, but Shiro would clarify and say that Pidge was just joking. Lance supposed they told him about Keith the most, because he wasn’t there. He didn’t have the chance to tell Lance anything himself.
“Princess Alurra?” Lance asked. “What should I do about Keith?”
“What do you mean Lance?” Alurra asked.
“I totally get that he needs too adjust. But does he want me to avoid him? Or should I be talking to him?”
Alurra sighed. “Sadly, Keith is not going to tell us.”
“Why not?”
“Keith has always had a hard time talking about how he feels. So often, we just have to figure it out overtime.”
“Oh…okay. I-I guess I’ll just carry on normally and see what happens?”
“Good Idea Lance.”
_____________________________
Lance had a diary. Well, the old lance did. Even if the others wouldn’t tell him details, he ended up learning a few by reading Lance’s diary. He now knew the names of everyone in his family in Cuba. He knew what the ocean smelled like and what his mother’s hugs felt that. He knew how he felt about missing Earth, being a part of Voltron, and how he felt about everyone in Voltron.
Dear Diary,
Today Keith and I were training. He left for the Blade of Mamora today, and he doesn’t know how long he’ll be gone. He says just his first mission is supposed to be really long! With him gone I get to keep flying red and I’m no longer a seventh wheel! YAY! But I don’t know if thats what I want. I mean, Keith leaving? Is that worth the red lion? I don’t know.
Its just, we’ve all been through so much together! And I thought him and I were getting closer. But I guess not. Maybe he really does still hate me, and I was just annoying him. He probably left just to get away from me. I should have been nicer to him. Rivals? Neck and Neck? What was i thinking?! I should have just told him how much I admire him, been the bigger man! But I can’t even do that right. And now Keith is gone. And its all my fault!
Dinner was so quiet tonight. Not that Keith ever talks during dinner, but his empty seat…it just shut us all up. Alurra said we need to keep our chins up and support keith. And of course she’s right! Damn her beautiful face being so hard to say no to. I think I’m gonna up my flirting game, it might distract me from how much I miss keith. Besides, Alurra’s never gonna be into me so no harm done, right?
Well, I should get to bed. Tomorrow is our first team training without Keith. I’m scared, he’s no longer gonna have my back.
Lance
Lance closed the Diary. Lance had learned in his past life he was very insecure. Clearly kept a mask up, and had many secrets. Especially how he felt about Voltron and then other paladins. But Lance couldn’t bare to tell the others this now. Not when it was too late.
….
Dinner was awkward. Not silent, but obviously tense.
“I’m happy to anounce, that Keith is rejoining Voltron to pilot the Red Lion!” Shiro raised his glass.
Everyone cheered.
“We’re happy to have you back keith,” Corran and Alurra said.
“I’ve learned so many new recipes! You’re gonna love them!” Hunk smiled.
“Aw crud Imma have to clean your room!” Pidge grumbled. “I was using it for extra building room.”
Everyone laughed.
“We’re happy to have you Keith,” Lance smiled.
The room grew silent again. That tends to happen when Lance talks.
“….Thanks Lance.” Keith nodded.
________________________________
That evening, Lance knocked on Keith’s door. He held Lance’s Diary to his chest, his head kept down.
“Lance? Whats wrong?” Keith asked.
“Hey Keith,” Lance said. “I uhm…I wanted to give you this.” Lance held out the book.
“Whats this?”
“Its Old Lance’s Diary. The others don’t know about it.”
“Wh-What…” Keith slowly took the diary in awe. It felt like the last remains of the Lance he knew and loved.
“I-I’ve already read through it. So I thought I’d give it to you.” Lance said.
“Why Me?”
“I don’t know,” Lance admited. “The old Lance he…he really admired you. He was really worried you two…that you guys weren’t friends. And I’m guess this is a peace offering, in a way? That maybe we can become friends.”
Keith stayed silent, and eventually nodded. “Okay. Thank you Lance.”
Lance gave a nod, and walked away.
…
The old Lance was gone, never to be recovered. But this Lance was here. And Keith was not going to ruin his chance with this one.
THE END
